The Zulu, also known as Amazulu, are self-proclaimed “people of heaven” found largely in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Malawi. WrittenZulu history dates back to the 14th century forming the largest ethnic group of South Africa. Zulu is the dominant language, characterized by clicking sounds. Spread across a stretch of South Africa's east coast, the former Zulu Kingdom boasts one of sub-Saharan Africa's most eclectic blend of wildlife, history, and culture. Women are in charge of the home, raising children, and cultivating the land. They make Zulu beer—a considerable source of daily nutrition, carrying social and ritual significance. They are the keepers of oral narratives reciting stories, praise poems, and proverbs explaining Zulu history and moral teachings.
